Parliamentary Pillar

The Parliamentary Coalition of the Community of Democracies (PCCD) is a unique global effort to mobilize democratically elected parliamentarians across the Community. The objective is to promote legislation oriented at ensuring institutional respect for democratic principles and fundamental human rights. It grew out of a Declaration that parliamentarians adopted during the 2015 Ministerial Conference in El Salvador.

Authoritarian regimes routinely form alliances in opposition to core democratic values, making it essential for democratic governments, including elected legislators, to collaborate across party and geographic lines.

The Parliamentary Coalition actively engages in the protection of democratic values, strengthening democratic institutions and invigorating parliaments by exchanging best practices, sharing proficiency with democracies in transition, and encouraging the executive branches to act in response to threats to democracy.
