Civil Society Pillar

The Community of Democracies recognizes the importance of civil society in the effective functioning of democracy and supports civil society in many of its initiatives.

At the heart of its inter-governmental work, the Community aims to facilitate close dialogue with civil society around the world, even in places where it faces challenges and restrictions.

The International Steering Committee (ISC) is the standing, elected executive board of the Civil Society Pillar. It is composed of 26 civil society organizations, including global, regional and national level organizations. The ISC represents the Civil Society Pillar between the Civil Society Assembly (CSA) meetings. Members of the ISC are elected for two-year terms by the Civil Society Assembly.
