Funding for democracy and civil society

CD-United (Using New Investment to Empower Democracies) is the Community of Democracies’  signature initiative that provides funding for projects that support and strengthen democracy.

This year’s theme is Democracy in Action: Expanding Civil Society Space.

The CD-UNITED initiative began accepting applications 22 February 2016. Proposals were reviewed on a rolling basis until funding was exhausted in December 2016. Most organizations that are working on topics associated with the basic values and human rights enshrined in the Warsaw Declaration were eligible for funding.

Projects that received grants in the previous years included training for pro-democracy lawyers in Cuba, democracy education programs in Kosovo and Mongolia, as well as roundtables on participatory approaches to social problems in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
