Ambassador Mark Palmer was one of those unique, creative and brave diplomats who passionately believed in public service. He strongly supported the democratic Hungarian activists prior to the fall of Communism and played a key role in conceiving the Community of Democracies as well as the National Endowment for Democracy.
The Mark Palmer prize is awarded to ambassadors and diplomats who have acted outside of their regular duties to engage in dialogue with civil society and effectively assist with calls for democracy support.
The 2015 Palmer Prize was awarded during the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. The recipients of the 2015 Mark Palmer Prize were:
