Working Group on CD Governance and Effectiveness
The Working Group on CD Governance and Effectiveness was established to discuss and make recommendation on specific topics in relation to the structure and governance of the Community of Democracies. The Working Group reports to the Community's Governing Council
quarterly, and is supported and coordinated by the Community's Permanent Secretariat
Objectives and Areas of Work
The Working Group discusses and makes recommendations on issues related to the effectiveness of the structure of the Community of Democracies. It contributes to the development of further rules, procedures and working methods. The issues discussed by the Working Group include:
Membership and Participation
The institutional development of the Community of Democracies, including an assessment of the possibilities of acquiring the status of intergovernmental organization.
The governing structure of the Community of Democracies and its working methods in relation to civil society.
Admissions of new members of the Governing Council.
Invitations to Ministerial Conferences of the Community of Democracies.
Selection of the Presidency of the Community of Democracies.
The Working Group is co-chaired by El Salvador
, and enjoys as well the membership of Nigeria, the Philippines, Poland and the United States. Civil society is represented in the Working Group by the International Steering Committee.
